Factories making banned plastic products to face power disconnection, sealing in Erode
Erode Collector S. Kandasamy has warned that factories manufacturing banned single-use plastic products will face power disconnection and sealing of premises for one year. Landowners are also being held accountable for ensuring their properties are not used for such illegal manufacturing.
Why it matters
This reflects aggressive local government enforcement strategies aimed at curbing environmental pollution and enforcing plastic bans through strict regulatory penalties.
Factories manufacturing banned single-use plastic carry bags and other prohibited plastic products will face disconnection of electricity and sealing of their premises and machinery for one year, Erode Collector S. Kandasamy has warned.
In a press release, the Collector said action was being taken against such units in accordance with Government Order No. 84 of the Environment and Forests (EC.2) Department, dated June 25, 2018.
Once a factory manufacturing banned single-use plastic products is identified, its electricity connection will be disconnected through the district coordination committee functioning under the chairmanship of the Collector. The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) will take further action, he said. The factory premises and machinery will also be sealed for one year, the Collector said.
