F1 Mexico City Grand Prix live updates: Charles Leclerc leads the way in FP2, Ferrari teammate Lewis Hamilton is forced to park car; Red Bull duo of Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar make contact
The 2026 Mexico City Grand Prix is set to be a pivotal event as 20-year-old Kimi Antonelli nears a historic world championship title. The weekend schedule includes multiple practice sessions and qualifying rounds at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
Why it matters
Kimi Antonelli is on the verge of becoming the youngest Formula 1 champion in history, marking a significant generational shift in the sport.
Formula 1 returns this weekend, continuing its tour of the Americas with the second weekend of a triple-header in Mexico City. The Mexico City Grand Prix marks the 19th of a planned 23 rounds of the world championship.
After nearly clinching the world title last week at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas, 20-year-old Kimi Antonelli is nearly assured of becoming the youngest champion in the history of the sport. All Antonelli — who enters with a 123-point lead over Mercedes teammate George Russell and a 124-point edge over Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton — needs to do is finish the grand prix ninth or better to clinch the title, regardless of where his rivals place.
A 10th-place finish or worse hands Antonelli the title provided neither Russell nor Hamilton wins the grand prix.
