Expressing deep concern over recurring maritime accidents and missing fishermen, East Coast Mechanised Fishing Boat Owners Association of India President Vasupalli Janakiram has on Saturday (August 22, 2026), criticised the state government for its alleged negligence in handling rescue operations.
Speaking to reporters in Visakhapatnam, Mr. Janakiram highlighted the ongoing anxiety surrounding seven fishermen who went missing after their fishing boat ventured into the sea from Vadalarevu in the Allavaram mandal of Konaseema district on August 3. This incident follows closely on the heels of another tragedy last month off Visakhapatnam, where seven more fishermen went missing and search efforts were abruptly called off after just three days.
