Experts raise alarm over 'dangerous' fertility add-ons in Ireland

Medical experts in Ireland are warning against the use of unproven and potentially dangerous 'add-on' fertility treatments. An investigation revealed that many clinics are promoting these costly procedures despite a lack of scientific evidence supporting their efficacy.
Why it matters
Patients struggling with infertility are being financially and physically exploited by unregulated medical practices, highlighting a need for stricter oversight.
Leading medical experts have warned about the sale of many "meaningless" and "dangerous" additional fertility treatments being sold on the Irish market.
It follows a surge in the number of so-called add-ons being promoted to people who need medical help to have a baby, with claims that these additional treatments can boost their chances of becoming pregnant.
As part of RTÉ Investigates programme - Fertility Uncovered - to be broadcast tonight, undercover researchers filmed at this year's Future Fertility Show in Dublin, a consumer information event advertised as bringing together global fertility experts and local and international fertility clinics.
At the show, they encountered the widespread promotion of add-on treatments.
