Like many of my generation, I grew up listening to Ilaiyaraaja. His music was so pervasive that it rarely demanded conscious attention. It was simply there — in homes, on buses, in tea shops, during long journeys and family gatherings. By the time I entered college, a substantial portion of what I listened to consisted of his music.
