Expanded breakfast scheme launched across four southern districts

The expanded breakfast scheme for students of Classes VI to VIII in government and government-aided schools in the four southern districts was launched on Tuesday.

Tirunelveli Collector Anand Mohan, who inaugurated the scheme and had breakfast with students of K.R. Government Higher Secondary School, Reddiyarpatti, along with Nanguneri MLA Reddiyarpatti V. Narayanan, said 45,753 students of 1,014 primary schools in the district were being served breakfast in the first phase.

With the expansion of the scheme to students of Classes VI to VIII, 32,734 students of 352 schools were now being served breakfast, he said.

Ingredients such as rice, dal, cooking oil and salt required for preparing the breakfast are being supplied by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, while the cooperative society supplies wheat, rava and vermicelli.
