COVINGTON, Tenn. (WMC) - A woman is alive after two bystanders pulled her from a burning car at a Covington gas station Thursday morning, according to Covington Police.
Angela Vandiver drove into a gas pump at the Midway Market, which immediately burst into flames. While others waited for emergency services, Drew Gookin and another bystander ran toward the fire and pulled Vandiver from the vehicle.
“I seen something and I just reacted, is all I did. Not a hero, just a reaction to something that I thought I could do,” Gookin said.
Gookin said he was on a normal grocery run when he spotted the flames.
“Flames were already up high before, as I was driving by,” he said.
He said there was no hesitation when he realized someone was inside.
