Personnel from the Excise Department on Wednesday raided around 15 bars and pubs in Mangaluru to check the supply of liquor to those aged below 21.
Under Rule 10(1)(e) of the Karnataka Excise License Rules (Licence Conditions) and Section 36(1)(b) of the Karnataka Excise Act, it is illegal to serve liquor to those aged below 21. Employing those aged below 18 at these joints is also a violation of Excise norms. Deputy Excise Superintendent, Mangaluru Sub Division-1, Gayatri C.H. said excise officials had been holding meetings with licensees to make them aware of the bar on serving liquor to underage persons and other Excise norms.
