Excise Department auctions over 2,000 seized vehicles, raises ₹5 crore

The Excise Department has auctioned more than 2,000 vehicles seized under the Delhi Excise Act that had been lying at and around various police stations for a long time, generating more than ₹5 crore in revenue for the government, officials said on Sunday.

The removal of the vehicles had not only generated revenue but also freed up space at police station premises and on public land, said a statement from the Chief Minister’s office.

The process of identifying and disposing of the remaining seized vehicles is continuing.

The Excise Department said it had also cleared the backlog of chemical analysis cases related to more than 5,000 pending police cases at the Excise Control Laboratory, bringing the number of active pending cases to zero.

The department said laboratory reports on seized liquor samples could take years to arrive, often delaying police investigations and subsequently affecting the legal process.
