An excavator driver was hacked to death by a gang near Keeladi here on Wednesday.

Police said, Kannan alias Mayakkannan, 24, a resident of Ilanthaikulam near Keeladi in Sivaganga district, worked as an excavator driver in Madurai.

On Wednesday morning, he was heading to Madurai on his two-wheeler for work.

When he reached near Pallichanthai Pudur in Keeladi, a gang which was on two-wheelers intercepted Mayakkannan and hacked him to death.

Keeladi police recovered the body and sent it to the Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital for postmortem.

Meanwhile, demanding the immediate arrest of the murderers, relatives of the deceased staged a road roko protest on the Konthagai road in Keeladi.

Police said, the initial investigations indicated that the murder was committed due to previous enmity.
