Ex-Madras High Court Judge V Sivagnanam Missing In Nepal Floods; Bar Body Appeals For Help

The Delhi Tamil Advocates Association has made an urgent appeal to the Government of India and the Chief Justice of India seeking immediate assistance to trace former Madras High Court judge and Senior Advocate Justice Veerasamy Sivagnanam (Retd.), who has remained untraceable in Nepal since August 26, when severe floods and landslides struck parts of the country.In an appeal addressed to the Chief Justice of India, the Association said Justice Sivagnanam was travelling in Nepal as part of a group of Tamil pilgrims when the disaster struck. A group photograph taken aboard the bus has reportedly confirmed his presence among the pilgrims.According to the Association, Justice Sivagnanam spoke to his wife over a WhatsApp call in the early hours of August 26, following which there has been no further communication with him.The appeal said that persons travelling in another bus, who were subsequently rescued near the Armed Police Force (APF) Nepal Border Outpost at Timure, informed the family that Justice Sivagnanam's bus was only around 100–200 metres away from their bus. He was a former judge of the Madras High Court and was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court of India with effect from July 23, 2025/The appeal was made on behalf of the Delhi Tamil Advocates Association under the guidance of its Patron President, Justice S Nagamuthu (Retd.), Senior Advocate, and its President, PV Yogeswaran, Advocate-on-Record.The development comes amid a major flood and landslide emergency in Nepal, with several Tamil pilgrims reported missing after the disaster.
