Former AIADMK Minister A. Venkatachalam’s son V. Rajarajan, 40, was hacked to death allegedly by his step-brother at Vadakadu in the district on Thursday. Police suspect property dispute to be the motive behind the murder.

The Vadakadu police picked up the murdered victim’s brother V. Rajapandi, 42, on charges of killing Rajarajan. Police sources said Rajarajan was the son of the second wife of Venkatachalam, while Rajapandi was the son of Venkatachalam’s first wife. Both Rajarajan and Rajapandi resided at Vadakadu.

Police sources said Rajapandi armed with an aruval charged towards Rajarajan in the morning to attack him. Rajarajan took to his heels and ran into a nearby house to safeguard himself. However, Rajapandi chased his brother and allegedly hacked him to death and threw a gas cylinder on his head before escaping from the spot.
