“Every day our officers attend to accidents” - GNFS sounds alarm over road safety
A fatal road accident involving a Sprinter bus and a Toyota Hiace on the Aflao-Accra highway in Ghana has resulted in 13 deaths. The Ghana National Fire Service is investigating the cause of the crash while noting a concerning increase in local road accidents.

Thirteen people have been killed and five others critically injured in a road crash involving a Sprinter bus and a Toyota Hiace on the Aflao-Accra highway, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed.
The accident occurred early Wednesday morning on the Sege Road, with the GNFS receiving a distress call at about 6:30 a.m.
Assistant Divisional Officer at the GNFS Headquarters, Isaac Kojo Opoku, said a fire appliance from the Sege Fire Station was immediately dispatched to the scene and arrived within 10 minutes.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Wednesday (2 September), he said firefighters had to extricate victims from the vehicles.
“Out of it, there were 18 people inside the car. And unfortunately, 13 people couldn’t survive the accident, five in critical condition,” Opoku said.
