The visitors created the better chances during an entertaining first half, with Thierno Barry twice coming close. The striker was denied by Djordje Petrovic after the goalkeeper had initially spilled a shot, while Jarrad Branthwaite also tested the Bournemouth defence.
However, it was the hosts who broke the deadlock four minutes before half-time. Evanilson did brilliantly to chase down a long ball, beat Tarkowski and pick out Alex Scott, who took a touch before firing a low effort into the bottom corner.
Everton continued to threaten after the interval, but Barry was unable to find the finish his lively performance deserved. Petrovic produced another important save to deny the forward from close range.
