European Pattern Committee Formally Approves Allowing Geldings In Arc

Voting members of the European Pattern Committee (EPC) have validated the June measure adopted by France Galop to open the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (G1) to geldings beginning in 2027.
The race, run at 2,400 meters (about 1 1/2 miles), is Europe's premier middle-distance contest.
The EPC met in Berlin on August 10 for a working and exchange meeting attended by the member countries (England, France, Ireland, and Germany) and the associated countries (Italy, Scandinavia, and Turkey) of the EPC. Information about opening the Arc to geldings was one of the topics on the agenda of the meeting.
This development is the result of a reflection carried out by France Galop as part of its strategy to develop and enhance the attractiveness of its major international events.
