Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s participation in the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi (September 12– 13, 2026) marked a key milestone in Ethiopia’s strategic engagement with leading emerging economies, reinforcing the voice of the Global South.
Held under India’s chairship and under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,” the Summit brought together BRICS leaders to discuss issues central to the future of developing countries, including economic transformation, development finance, trade, climate change, technology, global governance, and sustainable development.
For Ethiopia, the Summit provided an opportunity to advance national priorities, strengthen strategic partnerships, and enhance its position within the evolving economic and political landscape of the Global South.
