The date is deliberately early. Most credible forecasts put a quantum machine capable of breaking today's cryptography as early as 2030 , and some researchers think it may never arrive.

The Foundation's Protocol cluster chose to plan for 2030 anyway, per a Monday post , treating the deadline as non-negotiable until January 2027, when outside experts will reassess how fast quantum computing is actually moving. Software giants Google, Cloudflare and Microsoft have set migration targets around the same window.

Nothing threatens users today as existing quantum machines are nowhere near powerful enough. The exposure sits in the maths underneath two things — the signatures users make to move funds and the signatures validators make to agree on what happened.
