Environmentalists have opposed the laying of access road using cement concrete to ply through a culvert on the Tiruchi-Nagapattinam Highway near Tiruvarur as it would affect the survival of Palmyrah trees.
According to chief coordinator of GreenNeeda M. Rajavelu, a cement road was recently laid on both sides of a culvert along the Odampokki river on the Tiruchi-Nagapattinam Highway. The approach road had been laid in such a manner that the seepage of water around the palm trees that exist near the culvert were obstructed.
