Environmental organisation readies comprehensive SWM action plan for adoption by Tiruppur City Municipal Corporation
The Tiruppur Environmental Protection Committee has proposed a comprehensive solid waste management plan to the local municipal corporation. The plan includes ward-specific strategies, volunteer engagement, and the establishment of bio-CNG plants to improve waste processing.

Devising ward-wise action plan, roping in volunteers for public participation, exclusive management of bulk waste, establishment of bio-CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) plants and a multi-tier monitoring system, and putting in place a waste-management chain are among the measures mooted by the Tiruppur Environmental Protection Committee to shore up solid waste management by the Tiruppur Corporation.
Highlighting the shortcomings in the current system of solid waste management, a draft of the proposals were submitted by R. Satish Kumar, State secretary of the committee, to the district in-charge Minister K.G. Arunraj, on Tuesday.
The action plan for each of the 60 wards in the four zones of Tiruppur city should be based on actual data on population, residential localities, density of commercial establishments and industrial units, the extent of waste generated, and waste disposal locations, Mr. Satish Kumar said.
