NEW DELHI: A 34-year-old man was arrested after local residents allegedly caught him sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in central Delhi’s Kishanganj area on Monday evening, police said.The accused, identified as Ankit, a resident of Kishanganj, was apprehended by local residents and handed over to police. A group of people, along with the child and her family members, reached the Shidipura police post around 6.30pm and informed officials that the accused had allegedly been caught while sexually assaulting the girl.The incident triggered local outrage, with residents gathering outside the police station and demanding action against the accused. Enraged locals allegedly thrashed Ankit and his mother outside the police station, following which police intervened and dispersed the crowd.The child was immediately taken for a medical examination, while police inspected the spot where the alleged incident took place and collected evidence.
