Why it matters
The case highlights ongoing legal and social tensions regarding religious freedom, workplace conduct, and the enforcement of court orders in Ireland.
ENOCH BURKE HAS been ordered back to prison for a sixth time after repeatedly breaching a High Court injunction not to trespass at Wilson’s Hospital School.
Judge Brian Cregan today ordered Burke’s immediate arrest and committal to Mountjoy Prison, describing his conduct towards the Co Westmeath school as “provocative and confrontational”.
The judge also ordered the sequestration, or seizure, of a car used to bring Burke to the school, while allowing the Burke family to respond to that order in the next 24 hours.
Burke has already spent more than 700 days in prison across five separate periods of imprisonment for contempt of court since 2022.
He was most recently released on 1 July because the school year had ended, without giving an undertaking to stay away.
