Electrification of Pattukottai-Karaikudi broad gauge section nearing completion

The Southern Railway is nearing completion of the overhead electrification project for the Pattukottai-Karaikudi broad gauge section. Once finished, this will complete the full electrification of the Tiruchi Railway Division.
Why it matters
Electrification of rail lines is a critical component of India's infrastructure modernization, aimed at improving energy efficiency and reducing operational costs for the national rail network.
The ongoing overhead electrification (OHE) project in the over 70-km broad gauge section from Pattukottai to Karaikudi via Aranthangi is on the verge of completion. The Southern Railway Construction Organisation is executing the OHE project along this section covering parts of Thanjavur, Pudukottai and Sivaganga districts.
The report is a straightforward infrastructure update based on official railway announcements.
