Why it matters
As India manages the world's largest electorate, the integrity and transparency of its electoral rolls are fundamental to maintaining public trust in the democratic process.
Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar on Wednesday (August 5, 2026) said that the apex poll body follows an "unparalleled level of transparency" in the preparation of electoral rolls.
Addressing a programme at Agravan near Water Works crossing, Mr. Kumar said nearly 18 lakh personnel work under the EC during Lok Sabha elections.
"India has around 950 million voters, making it the world's largest democracy … the Election Commission follows an unparalleled level of transparency in the preparation of electoral rolls," he said.
He urged people to download the ECI Net mobile application, saying it provides access to Election Commission information and electoral data dating back to 1951.
