Election 2026: Over 15,000 eligible voters yet to enrol in Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa
The Electoral Commission reports that over 15,000 eligible voters in Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa have not yet enrolled for the upcoming general election. Officials are urging citizens to register early due to rule changes that may affect voting eligibility.

More than 15,000 eligible voters in Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa have yet to enrol to have their say in this year’s general election.
Of the 193,251 eligible voters across the electorate seats of Napier, Tukituki and Wairarapa – which includes parts of Central Hawke’s Bay and Tararua – more than 90% (177,789) were enrolled to vote in the November 7 election as of August 31.
But the Electoral Commission is warning those who aren’t – or those who haven’t received letters – that a change of rules for this year’s election means they need to act earlier in the voting cycle to ensure they can have their say.
In Napier, 59,149 of 64,684 eligible voters were enrolled as of August 31, giving the area a 91.44% enrolment rate, with 5535 still to enrol.
