Elderly woman murdered for gram of gold

A 60-year-old woman was allegedly murdered for one gram of gold jewellery at Melaveettukatti near Lalapettai on Tuesday.
V. Ilanjiam went to collect green fodder for her goats at a neighbouring plantain grove near Lalapettai police station on Tuesday. As she did not return home even after 6 p.m., her relatives informed Lalapettai police.
The police found her body with injuries to the throat and neck in a thorny bush on Wednesday. Her one gram nose-pin was missing. Deputy Inspector General of Police Sibi Chakravarthi and Superintendent of Police D.N. Hari Kiran Prasad visited the spot. A sniffer dog was also pressed into service.
