Elderly SC man assaulted, tiles of four houses damaged near Madurai

Three men were arrested for assaulting an elderly Scheduled Caste man and damaging houses in a village near Madurai. Police have increased security in the area to maintain order following the incident.

In a daring incident, three youths belonging to caste Hindu group attacked a septuagenarian Scheduled Caste man M. Subban of Kayampatti and inflicted bleeding head injuries on him.
The accused also damaged the roof tiles of four houses, also belonging to SC people, in the village under Othakadai police station limits in the early hours of Sunday.
The police arrested the accused identified as M. Ramar (26), M. Lakshmanan (26) and M. Praveen (34) of the same village.
The police said that the accused had a quarrel with two SC youths in the early hours. When they chased the youths, they ran into their residential area at around 3 a.m.
Frustrated over those youths managing to escape, the accused attacked Subban, who was fast asleep, with lethal weapons.
