El Nino: Schools ruled out, churches and mosques to shelter IDPs
Kenyan authorities have announced that schools will not be used as emergency shelters for families displaced by the upcoming El Nino rains. Instead, the government is identifying churches, mosques, and community centers to house those affected to avoid disrupting the academic calendar.

Instead, county commissioners have been ordered to identify chiefs' camps, churches and mosques that can house the displaced.
The disaster readiness plans got a major impetus on Thursday after weather forecasts determined they were 100 per cent certain of a once in a lifetime deluge due in October and will likely only die down in February.
Col (Rtd) David Samoei, Director General of the National Disaster Operations Centre (NDOC), said they are mapping centres to host people from October to February.
