The district administration is taking efforts to make fireworks industry an accident-free sector by introducing appropriate procedures and rules through technical experts to protect manufacturers and workers, Collector Sharanya Ari said on Thursday.

After inspecting a fireworks unit at Keezha Tiruthangal, she said that she inspected the mixing of chemicals, dimension of working sheds and safety environment and procedures being followed. She also discussed about the prescribed quantity of chemicals to be used every day.

The Collector said the fireworks industry was a major job producer in Virudhunagar district. The industry was facing accidents due to unexpected reasons and changes in climatic conditions.
