ECDC publications: HIV testing, doxy
The ECDC has released new guidelines to improve HIV care standards and antenatal screening to prevent vertical transmission of infections. Additionally, a new framework has been established to monitor the use of doxycycline prophylaxis for preventing bacterial STIs in the EU.
Why it matters
These guidelines provide a standardized approach for European health authorities to manage HIV and STI prevention, aiming to reduce transmission rates through better data and clinical practices.
ECDC, in collaboration with the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS), has developed standards of HIV care that define key quality statements, indicators and targets to support improvements in, access to, and quality of HIV services. These include a dedicated module on HIV testing, covering quality statements describing best practice based on current guidelines, and measurable, auditable indicators for outcome, structure and processes.
