ECB’s Lagarde Leaves Possibility Of Early Departure Open

ECB President Christine Lagarde leaves open the possibility of departing before her term ends in 2027, as succession speculation grows.
European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde has left open the possibility of leaving her position before the end of her scheduled term in October 2027.
Speaking to Ireland’s national broadcaster RTE on Friday, Lagarde was asked about persistent reports that she could resign before her mandate expires.
“I am leaving in 2027,” Lagarde said, responding to questions about her future at the ECB.
However, when asked whether she meant October 2027, the end of her current mandate, she replied, “We’ll see.”
