EC-SIR row brings oppn on same page; INDIA bloc to hold meeting on Sept 30

NEW DELHI: Opposition INDIA bloc parties are set to meet at the Constitution Club in New Delhi on September 30, with top leaders expected to attend amid growing concerns over the Election Commission and its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee and the party's national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee are also expected to attend the meeting.The meeting comes amid efforts by opposition parties to coordinate their response after reports of differences within the poll panel over aspects of the electoral roll revision. The parties have been in touch with each other and are discussing a joint response, sources said, as quoted by PTI.The opposition bloc also includes, the CPI(M), CPI and CPI(ML)-Liberation, who have demanded the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and an immediate halt to the SIR exercise.
