Ebola outbreak update - October 4
The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo continues to spread, with 59 new cases and 34 deaths reported as of October 4, 2026. Ituri remains the epicenter of the epidemic, while Kenya has reported an imported case of the Bundibugyo strain.

By the end of the day on October 4, 2026, 59 new confirmed cases of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD)—including 23 community deaths—had been reported across four provinces: North Kivu (33 cases), Ituri (23 cases), Haut-Uélé (2 cases), and Tshopo (1 case).
In addition, 11 deaths were recorded in Ebola Treatment Centers (ETCs)—4 in Ituri, 3 in North Kivu, 3 in Haut-Uélé, and 1 in Tshopo—bringing the total number of confirmed deaths for the period in question to 34.
