Earliest-diverging rhynchocephalian from Gondwana: a new sphenodontian from the upper triassic los colorados formation (northwestern Argentina)

Researchers have identified a new species of rhynchocephalian, Coloradosphenodon lahni, from the Late Triassic Los Colorados Formation in Argentina. This discovery provides new insights into the early evolutionary history and biogeography of the Lepidosauria clade.
Why it matters
It fills a significant gap in the fossil record of Gondwana, helping scientists understand the early diversification of reptiles.
