Why it matters
This case highlights ongoing efforts to combat corruption and conflict of interest within local government procurement in Kenya.
Eacc headquarters The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has secured court orders preserving land and six motor vehicles linked to a Sh111.5 million recovery case against Peter Muriithi Nyaga, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Mbeti North Ward in Embu county.
In a ruling delivered on October 29, 2026, High Court Judge Joseph Kipkoech Biomdo barred Nyaga and his co-defendants from selling, transferring, charging or otherwise disposing of the properties pending the hearing and determination of the recovery suit.
“The Land Registrar and the Director-General of the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) are directed to maintain absolute restrictions and caveats against the title and logbooks of the subject land and vehicles, preventing any transfer of ownership,” the judge further directed.
