EACC arrests KRA official over alleged Sh30,000 bribe

The EACC has arrested a Kenya Revenue Authority official over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe to facilitate the clearance of tax arrears and issuance of a Tax Compliance Certificate.

According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, the officer in Kisumu allegedly demanded Sh100,000 from a construction company to clear tax arrears reflected on the iTax system.

EACC said the tax arrears were initially indicated at Sh4.5 million before being revised to Sh142,230.

The complainant reportedly pleaded with the officer to reduce the amount of the alleged bribe.

EACC said the request was accepted, and the officer subsequently received Sh30,000.
