Dubliner breaks silence on abuse at Celtic Boys Club

Forty years ago, Dubliner Declan Roche moved to Glasgow at the age of 15 with dreams of becoming a professional footballer. Within months, he says, he was being sexually assaulted by a manager at Celtic Boys Club.

After almost four decades of keeping the abuse to himself, he has now decided to speak publicly about it for the first time.

Celtic Boys Club was established in 1966 and acted as a feeder club for talented young players hoping to progress to Celtic Football Club, many from Ireland.

Over subsequent decades, a number of men associated with the Boys Club were convicted of sexually abusing young players, including its founder, Jim Torbett, and former manager Frank Cairney.
