DSWD to launch water filtration kits

The Philippine government is launching a program to distribute free household water filtration kits and establish community water depots. This initiative aims to address water security concerns in areas affected by El Niño and high-density urban regions.
Why it matters
Provides immediate, low-cost infrastructure to vulnerable populations facing water scarcity due to climate-driven weather patterns.
THE government is set to roll out household water filtration kits and establish community water depots nationwide as part of its immediate water security and conservation measures amid El Niño threats.
Areas already placed under a state of calamity will be the first to receive a simple filtration system technology, Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rexlon T. Gatchalian told a Palace briefing on Wednesday, where the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) demonstrated how the portable purification units operate.
“We will start next week, rolling out to the barangays. We will ask them to bring their buckets. We will handle the drilling, we will do the installation, and we will also teach them,” Mr. Gatchalian said in Filipino.
He added that distribution will also target high-density urban communities in Metro Manila experiencing low water pressure.
