Industrial forums, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and exporters of the region have welcomed the decision of the State government to set up an inland container depot, also referred to as Multi Modal Logistics Hub or dry port, in Tiruchi.

As per the announcement made in the State Assembly, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay said that the State government would soon carry out a detailed study on establishing a multi-modal logistics hub. The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) has been tasked with the job of preparing the DPR. The facility is expected to have container handling, warehousing, cold chain, and temperature controlled facilities, terminals, cargo consolidation and distribution hubs, and customs clearance. The infrastructure will benefit the trade and industry in the region.
