Police in Dunedin, New Zealand, arrested a 26-year-old man after seizing a significant quantity of drugs, including cocaine and MDMA, during a traffic stop near a student event. The arrest is being hailed by authorities as a successful disruption of local drug supply chains.

A man has been charged after police allegedly seized cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, cannabis and cash during a traffic stop in Dunedin’s student area during Re-O’ Week celebrations.
Police said the discovery was made after officers spotted a suspicious vehicle driving around the area, where hundreds of students were believed to be gathering for the annual event.
Around 10.30pm, the vehicle stopped on Dundas St and when officers approached, they were met by the smell of cannabis coming from the car, prompting a search of the vehicle.
Police located and seized quantities of cocaine, MDMA, ketamine, cannabis, and a large amount of cash.
Senior Sergeant Adelle Williams said getting the drugs off the street was a great result for the community.
“The majority of the drugs seized was already divided, packaged, and ready for sale.
