Drivers facing unique Gold Coast Shootout challenge
Supercars drivers are preparing for a challenging Gold Coast Shootout, which has been moved to the start of the day's schedule. Weather conditions remain a significant variable for the teams as they navigate the revised event format.
Why it matters
The event highlights the logistical and competitive pressures faced by professional motorsport teams during high-stakes racing weekends.
A revised format for the event this year had qualifying for the opening race moved forward to Friday, meaning today’s Shootout at 12:35pm local time is the first Supercars session of the day.
While weather remains the biggest unknown with more rain forecast to hit the Gold Coast, the session will provide a big challenge regardless.
“It’s going to take a lot of balls to show up and throw it into Turn 1 on the first lap,” he said.
“A lot of guys are hitting it on the second lap, so the first lap of the day to be the Shootout is going to be pretty exciting as a fan, I think, and as a driver as well.
Feeney ended Friday qualifying second on the time sheet, just 0.069s adrift of pacesetter Anton De Pasquale .
