The case illustrates how social media platforms are being exploited for illicit drug distribution, posing challenges for law enforcement.
The Telangana EAGLE Force and Abdullapurmet police arrested a 30-year-old driver and seized 200 ml (330 grams) of hash oil worth ₹2.5 lakh near the Outer Ring Road (ORR) on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway on Saturday.
The accused, Burse Narendra Srinivas, a native of Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh and a resident of Gurramguda, was intercepted after getting off a bus.
According to the police, Srinivas had previously been arrested in five NDPS-related cases registered in Saroornagar and Meerpet. After being released on bail, he allegedly resumed drug peddling after finding his earnings as a driver insufficient for his expenses.
Police said he came into contact with a supplier, identified as Hari of Paduwa, through Snapchat and began procuring hash oil for sale in Hyderabad and surrounding areas. He allegedly sold 10 ml for ₹1,200 and had so far identified about 10 customers in LB Nagar and nearby areas.
