Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized about 5.832 kg of gold, worth about ₹8.98 crore, from a car near Visakhapatnam.
Acting on specific intelligence, the DRI team intercepted a car travelling from Kolkata to Hyderabad on Friday (October 9, 2026) and seized the yellow metal — 24-carat gold of foreign origin.
The gold was smuggled through the India-Bangladesh border and was being transported to Hyderabad, DRI officials said in a release on Sunday (October 11, 2026). The accused had concealed the gold biscuits in a cabin created for smuggling, beneath the leg space of the front co-passenger seat in the car, the officials said.
The two persons smuggling the gold have been arrested. The accused were produced in court and remanded to judicial custody.
