Drain work in Madhavaram and Tondiarpet to be completed this week

The Tamil Nadu government is accelerating flood mitigation and canal restoration projects in Madhavaram and Tondiarpet to reduce flood risks before the monsoon season. Minister D. Logesh Tamilselvan has ordered officials to expedite the removal of encroachments and water hyacinth to ensure effective drainage.

Commercial Taxes and Registration Minister D. Logesh Tamilselvan on Thursday said work on restoration of canals in Madhavaram and Tondiarpet will be completed this week.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, he said: “Work on removing water hyacinth in Retteri surplus canal is under way. The encroachments will be removed.” He ordered officials to expedite work on 1.16 km drain work along Madhavaram Red Hills High Road from V.S.Mani Nagar to Puzhal Surplus. The work is estimated at ₹22.88 crore. Once the work is completed, flood risk is expected to reduce in areas such as Balaji Nagar, MRH Road, Vegetarian Nagar, and Krishna Nagar.
