DR Congo announces to increase volume of its cargo using Dar Port to 60 percent after opening new mines

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has pledged to increase the volume of cargo passing through the Port of Dar es Salaam from the current 50 per cent to 60 per cent, following increased mineral production resulting from the commencement of operations at new mines.

The pledge was made by DRC Minister of International Trade, Julien Paluku Kahongya, on September 19, 2026, when he visited the Tanzania Ports Authority (TPA) accompanied by a delegation of senior government officials from the DRC.

Kahongya said the DRC was prepared to make full use of various cargo transportation routes, including transporting cargo through the border to the Port of Kigoma, where the Tanzanian Government has already launched a vessel to facilitate the transportation of DRC cargo.
