Dozens fined or charged in Taranaki road policing operation
Taranaki police conducted a large-scale road safety operation over the weekend, resulting in multiple drink-driving charges and dozens of traffic infringement notices. The operation included checkpoints across several New Zealand towns to improve road safety.

Drink-driving charges and dozens of infringement notices were issued during a weekend police operation in Taranaki.
Checkpoints were set up across New Plymouth, Ōakura, Bell Block, Inglewood and Waitara on Friday and Saturday nights, with assistance from the Manawatū and Whanganui Impairment Prevention teams.
Taranaki Area Commander Inspector Mark Miller said two drivers allegedly attempted to evade police and skip the checkpoints.
“They were soon located and the drivers arrested.”
