Domination Station: Five Most Punishing Performances of 2026

The 2026 NTT INDYCAR SERIES season was defined by the dominance of Alex Palou, who secured his fifth championship in six years. The article reviews the most punishing and impressive driving performances of the season across various tracks.
Why it matters
This provides a retrospective analysis of competitive trends in professional motorsports, highlighting the gap between top-tier drivers and the rest of the field.
Even with Alex Palou winning five NTT INDYCAR SERIES championships in the past six years, this field remains the most competitive group in motorsports.
Yet, there were race weekends where drivers and their teams dominated. Often, that was Palou and Chip Ganassi Racing, but not always.
Arrow McLaren had some of those events. Andretti Global and Team Penske did, as well.
Obviously, Palou had the most convincing victories, and stacking them together helped mount an 86-point advantage at season's end. His drives in the Firestone Grand Prix of St. Petersburg (led 59 of the 100 laps and finished 12.4948 seconds ahead of Team Penske's Scott McLaughlin) merited consideration for one of the best five of the season, as well as his winning effort from the pole in the Chevrolet Grand Prix of Detroit (71 of 100 laps led).
