Tiruchendur temple police on Thursday arrested a 40-year old woman, who had been working as a domestic help, for stealing 32 sovereigns of gold jewellery and ₹65,000 cash from a house in Tiruchendur, where she worked.

According to police, Mariammal, 61, of Thattar Street in Tiruchendur lives alone. Esakkiammal, 40, of Mutharamman Koil Street had been working as a domestic help at her house for the past 15 years. A few days ago, Mariammal was admitted to a private hospital near Tiruchendur for treatment after she fell ill. She returned home on August 27. However, it was only on Wednesday that she noticed that the gold jewelleries and cash kept inside the house were missing. She lodged a complaint with Tiruchendur temple police station.
