KALYAN: The investigation into the assault on doctors and nurses at Kalyan's Shastri Nagar Hospital gathered pace on Sunday after Shiv Sena corporator Ramesh Mhatre surrendered before the Vishnu Nagar Police Station following the Bombay High Court's rejection of his bail plea. On the same day, police also arrested Sadhana Karande, the fifth accused in the case, and produced her before a Kalyan court. The Bombay High Court on Saturday cancelled the bail granted to Mhatre by the Kalyan Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court and directed him to surrender before the police. Complying with the order, Mhatre appeared at the Vishnu Nagar Police Station and was subsequently produced before the Kalyan court. As per the High Court's directions, he is expected to be remanded to judicial custody and sent to jail.
