Why it matters
This case demonstrates the effectiveness of non-invasive endoscopic procedures in treating accidental ingestion emergencies.
A team of doctors at the Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences has successfully removed a nail cutter from the stomach of a young man through endoscopy. The 20-year-old patient had accidentally swallowed it.
“Ganesh Koppad of the Gastroenterology Department and a team of other doctors, including senior gastroenterology experiment technician Deepak Kengeri, led the operation. Extracting the nail cutter from the stomach was a medically challenging task,” director Vinay Dastikoppa said.
The patient was treated in the hospital for a few days and then discharged. He is now back to normal. There was no need for surgery,” the doctors said.
