Why it matters
This highlights the ongoing political tension between opposition parties and the ruling government regarding civil liberties and the right to protest.
DMK president M.K. Stalin has stated that the party is prepared to provide legal assistance to activists of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) who were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
Quoting a post on the social media platform X by Abhijeet Dipke , founder and convenor of the CJP, the former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister remarked, “How many protesters can this government detain? How many young voices can the BJP silence? The more young people they jail, the more ordinary citizens, with no political affiliation, will take to the streets and show them the true power of the people. Solidarity with Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das. The DMK stands ready to provide them with all necessary legal representation and support.” He also included the hashtag #GyaneshKumarMustGo.
